Brothers plead guilty in manslaughter case

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Two brothers have pleaded guilty in the death of 30-year old Marvin Palmer III.

The Journal Gazette reports 19-year-old Shakidi Underwood and 18-year-old Kamari Underwood pleaded guilty this week to voluntary manslaughter in the July 2015 death of Palmer. They will each serve 15 years in prison if the plea deal is accepted. Both brothers will receive 25-year sentences, with 10 years suspended. They would also serve three years probation.

17-year-old Vicxon Gray pleaded guilty in December 2015 to assisting a criminal in Palmer’s death. He will not receive jail time in exchange for testifying against the underwood brothers. His sentencing is set for July 27th.

Palmer was riding in a car with a friend back on July 9, 2015 near Lillie and Baxter streets when he wanted to pull over and talk with Kamari Underwood. Court documents say Palmer then went up to Underwood with some money, and then Underwood pulled a gun.

The two fought and two gunshots were heard before a second gunman shot at Palmer.

Fort Wayne Police surrounded the home, but found the house empty.

Gray and Kamari Underwood were arrested shortly after the shooting. However, Shakidi Underwood was not arrested until about five months later in Atlanta.
