Brief 911 outages plague several Indiana counties

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County 911 system went down for an hour Friday night, and it wasn’t the only one.

According to our Partners in News at ABC 21, the service went down for Allen and several other counties from 7pm to 8pm.

The outage was apparently due to problems with the IN911 network, which allows cellular customers to use the correct 911 service for their area.

Officer Mark Bieker of the Fort Wayne Police Department issued the following statement:

“On February 15, 2019 at 7:07 pm the IN911 network suffered technical difficulties that resulted in the IN911 system that affected the call routing services.”

“The system was restored to full functioning at 7:58 pm and during that time the public was notified by means of both Social Media as well as Mainstream Media.”

“It should be noted that there were multiple test calls made throughout the state to insure that the IN911 service was functioning as expected.”

“There will also be ongoing troubleshooting to identify the exact cause of this incident.”
