Body found in Maumee River near Water Filtration Plant

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Police are investigating the discovery of a body in the Maumee River Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to North Anthony Blvd near Niagara Drive at about 2:30pm after a water plant worker noticed a bad smell in the area, then spotted something in the water. The Fire Department’s water rescue team removed the body, which had been entangled in a log jam.

Fort Wayne Police spokesman Michael Joyner tells our Partners in News at ABC 21 it appears the body had been in the water for a while.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.
