FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): BAE Systems plans to lay off approximately 100 members of its Fort Wayne staff this year.

The company told its employees Tuesday morning about the plan, according to our news partners 21Alive.

The layoffs come after slow work levels and delays in certain programs. The reduce of employees will help the company stay competitive in the commercial aerospace market, a company spokesman told 21Alive.

The company currently employs about 1,000 employees in Fort Wayne.

BAE Systems is a military product manufacturer based out of London that has suppliers around the world.

BAE Systems unveiled a $46 million facility in Fort Wayne in September.
