Auburn police: restaurant fire was deliberately set

AUBURN, Ind. (WOWO): Auburn police are investigating a restaurant fire as an arson case.

The Auburn Police Department tells WOWO News crews were called to the Penguin Point Restaurant on W. Seventh Street at about 4:40am when someone called 911 to report smoke coming from the building.

There was an intense fire by the time police and fire crews arrived a few minutes later, though the fire was under control shortly. Police then determined that someone had forced their way into the restaurant and intentionally set the fire, right in the middle of it.

There’s currently a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arsonist’s arrest; contact Auburn Police at 260-920-3200 Ext. 1901 or the Indiana State fire Marshall’s Office Hotline at 1-800-382-4628 if you have a tip.
