Allen County judge to decide if Richards should be retried

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A judge is set to meet with attorneys to decide if a man who is accused of killing three people will be tried again.

Police say Artavius Richards, 19, and Darrell McDaniel killed 23-year-old Mohamedtaha Omar, 20-year-old Adam Kamel Mekki and 17-year-old Muhannad Adam Tairab in the 800 block of East Lewis Street on Feb. 24.

Richards was already already in court. The jury deliberated for more than eight hours on Nov. 17 before telling the judge they couldn’t reach a verdict.

Richards and McDaniel were each charged with three counts of murder and other charges. McDaniel’s trial is set for late March.

The judge will meet with attorneys to decide whether Richards’ case should be dismissed or retired on Monday, Nov. 28.
