INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The Freedom Indiana advocacy group says Ivy Tech Community College has adopted a transgender-inclusive policy that will protect transgender and gender-nonconforming students and faculty from discrimination.

The group said Thursday that the policy’s guidelines grant transgender and gender-nonconforming students the right to express their gender identity openly or to keep it private; and it allows students to use facilities that match their gender identity.

The group said it also requires all school records to reflect a student’s gender and name; and it requires students be addressed by the name and pronouns that correspond to their gender identity.

Freedom Indiana says the policy went into effect on July 1.
