Indiana woman stole patrol car found after overnight search

NEW CASTLE, Ind. (AP): Authorities in eastern Indiana say they’ve tracked down a woman who stole a sheriff’s office patrol car despite being handcuffed.

Henry County Sheriff Ric McCorkle says the woman was found Saturday along a rural roadway north of the town of Cadiz.

He identified her as 21-year-old Tori Schadene Hostetler of Monrovia.

The chase began Friday when deputies stopped a car that had been reported stolen.

One passenger was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car but managed to drive off in the vehicle.

She crashed in Henry County and fled on foot. K9 officers tried to track her.

The Muncie Star Press reports that a couple told authorities the woman had apparently been in their garage.

She was being evaluated at the Henry County jail.
