2 injured, restaurant burned down after fire at Lake George Retreat in Fremont

FREMONT, Ind. (WOWO): Two people were hospitalized and the Lake George Retreat in Fremont was burned down after a major fire on Friday morning.

At about 6:40 a.m. Friday, the Fremont Fire Department was called to the Lake George Retreat on reports of a fire, according to the Fremont Fire Department. 

When officers arrived, they found an active fire. Crews worked to extinguish the flames. At about noon, about 16  different fire departments were at the scene still working to put out the fire.

Two people have been hospitalized, including a firefighter, with minor injuries.

“The Lake George Retreat is an iconic restaurant here with the lake view dining that is overlooking Lake George,” Spokesperson for the Fremont Fire Department Jordon Trippe said. “The damage is catastrophic, the business is a complete loss. We are five hours into this fire at this point, and the fire has not been put out completely yet. ”

Traffic is blocked in the area. People are asked to avoid the area.
