WOWO talks gubernatorial debates with Lt. Governor Eric Holcomb

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO):  Planning is underway for three gubernatorial debates and all three major candidates for Governor — Democrat John Gregg, Republican Eric Holcomb and Libertarian Rex Bell — have expressed interest in participating.

The Indiana Debate Commission is organizing the debates. The first is scheduled for Sept.  27 at Lawrence High School in Indianapolis. The second debate is set for October 3 and the third debate is being planned for October 24.

Lt. Governor Holcomb said, he’s looking forward to the debates being different this year.

“They’re subject matter debates. The 27th of the month will be on education,” Holcomb said. “It will be held at a high school. The second debate will be on the economy and jobs. The third debate will be on public health type issues.”

Holcomb said he hopes the subject matter debates will give Indiana residents a better understanding of true Hoosier issues.

“It will give the viewer and tax payer more of a focus on what we are in fact debating so it’s not just hodgepodge all over the board, we can really dip deep into some real serious issues Indiana faces,” Holcomb said.

The Commission is planning on having both October debates televised.
