WARSAW, Ind. (WOWO): A 2-year-old girl was killed and a Warsaw man was arrested for her murder early Friday morning.

Christopher A. Grimmett, 29, was arrested and preliminary charged with murder, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.

At about 10:25 p.m. Thursday, crews were called to a Warsaw home on reports of a custody complaint. Officers met with Grimmett and he said he had been babysitting his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, Adalin P. Stamper.

He said her grandmother had picked Stamper up. Officers investigated the claims and were led to the 1800 block of Sue Avenue in Warsaw, which is where a relative of Grimmett lives.

Deputies obtained consent to search the property. During the search, police found a shallow grave in the back yard. Stamper was inside the grave.

Police say Grimmett provided a statement that eventually led to his arrest. He is being held in Kosciusko County Jail.

The death is still under investigation pending an autopsy.
