Two hurt after high-speed chase in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Two people suffered major injuries after leading Fort Wayne police on a high-speed chase Thursday night.

According to Public Information Officer Jeremy Webb, an officer started pursuing a southbound silver Chevy Malibu on Ardmore a little after 11pm when he noted it swerving into and driving in oncoming traffic. When he tried to pull the driver over, the car sped off, leading both on a chase that reached speeds over 80 miles per hour. That chase ended when the suspects’ vehicle lost control on some railroad tracks on Nuttman Avenue, crashing off the roadway and ejecting both occupants.

A man was hospitalized in serious condition, and a woman in critical condition.

Police think alcohol was a factor in the crash, and say the suspected driver has a history of drunk driving offenses.
