ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Did you know there is a constitutional amendment on the November ballot in Indiana?

The state’s public trust doctrine makes hunting and fishing in Indiana more of a privilege, but a proposed constitutional amendment would rewrite Indiana’s constitution to make hunting and fishing a right.

The Indiana Right to Hunt and Fish Amendment “shall be forever preserved for the public good.” That’s if voters pick “yes” on the ballot, which would add that language to the Indiana Bill of Rights.

It has the backing of many hunters and outdoorsmen in Indiana. It also has the backing of the National Rifle Association, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Nineteen other states already have hunting and fishing as a “right” in their state constitutions, though Kentucky is the only neighboring state with such regulations.
