FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): More pets go missing on July 4 than any other day of the year and H.O.P.E. for Animals wants to help Allen County residents find their pets.

Pet Amber Alert says pets become frantic and run away during fireworks because they try to find a safe haven. To help with the influx of missing pets during the beginning of July, H.O.P.E. for Animals is offering $10 microchips during the month of June.

“We love to hear stories of pets and their families being reunited,” said Dr. Carol Fretz, veterinarian at H.O.P.E. for Animals. “These stories might not have such a happy ending if the pets were never microchipped or if the microchip contained inaccurate or out-of-date information.”

H.O.P.E. for Animals is also encouraging pet owners to update and check contact information on their pet’s microchip. Pet owners can have their pet scanned for a microchip at the clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To schedule an appointment for to get a pet microchipped or to learn more about it, call 260-420-7729.
