FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Less than a week after it was filed, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office dropped a preliminary felony charge against a Fort Wayne pain doctor, but it’s not clear why.
Dr. Michael Cozzi is accused of prescribing narcotic drugs like oxycodone and hydrocodone to at least 1,700 people in the first 38 days of 2016. Investigators say that some of those patients died after taking the drugs.
A spokeswoman from the prosecutor’s office says the claims are still under investigation even though the charge was dropped.
The state medical licensing board suspended Cozzi’s medical license on Thursday, March 24.
Federal agents raided his home and office on March 22. He was arrested later that day.
A day later, he was charged with felony possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug.
