No Ivy Tech job for Brooks

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Cross one name off of Ivy Tech’s presidential candidate list.

Congresswoman Susan Brooks had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the position after Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann announced she was resigning to pursue the president’s job herself. But Brooks told the The Herald Bulletin of Anderson that she will not seek the community college job, and is instead focused on her re-election campaign – the primary is May 3.

The Republican from Carmel was considered a candidate since she worked at Ivy Tech before – she was vice president and general counsel from 2007 until she won her first term in Congress in 2012.

Ellspermann has been touted for the Ivy Tech position by Governor Pence going back to December, though the two deny that a political split led to the publicly-amicable parting of the Republican ticket during an election year. It was announced Thursday that Elspermann’s resignation would take effect March 2, with new Lieutenant Governor nominee Eric Holcomb taking over the following day. That would put Holcomb in charge of the State Senate roughly one week before the end of the current legislative session.

Ellspermann may not be the only big name candidate, as dozens are expected to apply before the March 15 application deadline.
