FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry released the following statement on the passing of 67-year-old Linda Vandeveer, With the passing of Linda Vandeveer, the light in Fort Wayne has been dimmed a little. She and her husband Jerry have been tireless advocates for law enforcement, firefighters and the vibrancy of the near south side of the city for decades. She may no longer be with us but her legacy lives on. I hold Jerry and their family in our community’s thoughts and prayers. Fort Wayne is a better place because of the Vandeveers.”

Vandeveer, who helped out with establishing a memorial on Wells Street to fallen police officers and firefighters, among countless other efforts, passed away Thursday.
