INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana Governor Mike Pence’s Regional Cities grants, awarded to three regions last December, are a step closer to being fulfilled.

Pence originally had $84-million to distribute to two winning regions who pitched plans to attract people to their areas, but in December the Indiana Economic Development Corporation picked three winners, including Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana, to get $42-million each.

The State Senate has now voted to give the program an additional $42-million to cover the cost. The Journal Gazette reports two area senators, Jim Banks of Columbia City and Liz Brown of Fort Wayne, opposed the move.

The bill now moves to the House.
