NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WOWO): A 20-year-old former New Haven basketball player, Steve McElvene, unexpectedly died Thursday morning.
McElvene, also known as “Big Steve,” died after collapsing at his home, according to the News-Sentinel.
The Allen County Coroner said he was pronounced dead at his Fort Wayne home at 11:19 a.m.
His death is still under investigation. The cause of the death isn’t clear, but the coroner says there are no signs of foul play.
He was a red shirt freshman at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. The center who stood at 6 feet 11 inches set a single-season block record last season with 55 blocks.
As a senior at New Haven in 2014, he averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks a game.
