FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The body of an elderly woman was found late Tuesday morning in a home where a small fire reportedly burned for several hours overnight.

The woman’s family checked on her at about 11 a.m., and they called 911 when they noticed the windows were covered with soot, according to our news partners at 21Alive.

Fort Wayne Fire Department Chief Adam O’Connor said the fire was already out when firefighters arrived at the 2700 block of Clara Avenue.

O’Connor said there was a small fire burning overnight and firefighters found the victim in the front room.
