Donnelly presses Northern Indiana VA on sharing patient info

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Indiana US Senator Joe Donnelly is looking for answers from the Northern Indiana Veterans Affairs health care system in Fort Wayne, after allegations that they sent two veterans’ personal health information to the wrong veteran about a week ago.

Donnelly is pressing the office’s director, Jay Miller, to detail plans to investigate the sharing of veterans’ personal information and what steps have been taken to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“Hoosier veterans have the right to expect that their health information is private and appropriately protected by the VA and other health care providers,” Donnelly wrote. “I expect that there will be a rigorous investigation into this matter to determine the scope of the problem, whether other veterans have been impacted, and why veterans’ medical information was inappropriately shared with other patients.”
