Deputy hurt, suspect wounded in police-action shooting

NORTH WEBSTER, Ind. (WOWO): A suspect and an officer were both hurt in a police-action shooting in North Webster on Wednesday night.

The Indiana State Police is investigating the shooting, according to our news partners at 21Alive.

It happened after an apparent road rage incident that led to one driver shooting at the other on State Road 13. The one doing the shooting ended up crashing into a vehicle driven by a Kosciusko County deputy at the intersection of Main and Huntington.

The deputy was injured in the crash and ended up shooting the suspect, who was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment.

“I am confident in the training that our officer has received, along with the officer’s judgement,” The Kosciusko County Sheriff C. Aaron Rovenstine said. “From the information and evidence that I have been provided at this time, I stand with our officer and his actions as we await the findings of the completed investigation.”

Rovenstine also said the administrative leave shouldn’t be viewed as punishment or imply that office acted improperly.
