FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Two men were arrested Wednesday morning after police say they robbed a Fort Wayne gas station at gunpoint then led police on a chase through town.

Witnesses told police that when two men came into the Lassus Handy Dandy gas station in the 7400 block of Maplecrest Road at about 2:20 a.m., one was waving a silver revolver and demanding cash, according to a police report from the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The two suspects took money, lottery tickets and cigarettes and then ran from the store.

A FWPD officer was traveling to the scene when he spotted two men who fit the description of the suspects walking in the 7200 block of Wrangler Trail.

The men got into a vehicle as the officer was getting out of his car to approach the suspects then drove off. The officer followed the car with his lights and sirens on as the suspects led him on a chase.

During the chase the suspects were throwing items out of the window that the officer described as colorful paper.

At one point, the officer noticed he was traveling at 100 mph and estimated the suspects were traveling 120 mph. He said he began to back off for public safety.

The chase ended when the suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to go airborne, spin and collided into a house in the 6200 block of Vance Ave. Officers arrested both suspects at the scene after a witness to the armed robbery positively identified one of the men as the suspect. Police also found a handgun.

The front of the house was damaged in the crash, but the people inside weren’t injured.
One of the suspects was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Gregory Clark. He faces charges of robbery as a level three felony, possession of a handgun as a level five felony and fleeing the scene in a vehicle as a level six felony.

The passenger, later identified as Chancellor Shaquille, faces charges of robbery, which is a level three felony.

The incident is still under investigation.
