FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Allen County SPCA is holding a special event this weekend in an attempt to empty their animal shelter.

Director Jessica Henry tells WOWO news they’re going to try and give away every cat they have today.

“This is the first time we’ve ever participated in the nationwide ‘Clear the Shelters’ event, where we’ve partnered with Petco, to offer all of our cats for free,” Henry says. “They’re all microchipped and spayed or neutered. We’ll have specials on our adoptable dogs as well.”

“It’s our hope to find homes for as many of our adoptable animals as possible, and if we’re really lucky, maybe all of them,” she adds, noting that the shelter is “overpopulated” with cats.

The Shelter will also have special hours Saturday, open from 10am to 6pm instead of noon to 4pm. Learn more about the “Clear the Shelters” effort by clicking here.
