Zoeller Proposes Technology to Catch Indiana Scam Artists

INDIANAPOLIS Ind. (WOWO): Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller says new legislation introduced next year will help prevent scams on unsuspecting Hoosiers.

According to a press release, Zoeller says con artists are discovering new ways to victimize people every day via mail, phone or online. Some popular scams include those from debt buyers, false home construction or repairmen, or those who prey on senior citizens.

Zoeller is proposing new laws that he says, will help his office better protect Indiana residents from consumer fraud. He's suggesting a voluntary registry for contractors as well as a registry for debt collectors, requiring them to first identify themselves and explain how much is owed.

If you believe you've been a victim of a scam, complaints can be filed with the Attorney General's Office by visiting in.gov/attorneygeneral or calling (800)-382-5516.
