York Responds to Council Attempt to Cut Public Safety Position

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Public Safety Director position in Fort Wayne seems safe… for now.

Several City Council members tried to remove the position's funding from the city's salary ordinance last night in apparent attempts to eliminate the position. The Council met to discuss the budget, and Rusty York tells WOWO news his job could again be in Republicans' sights:

“Obviously, that's a decision the Mayor is going to have to make, and obviously still, the Council has to submit their budget cuts this week, so that could still be a focused area.”

A vote to cut the position's funding fell short when Republican Tom Smith joined the Council's three Democrats in opposing it.
