Would-be Robber Shot Dead

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) Fort Wayne police were called to a reported shooting at West Packard at South Wayne Street.  The report came in at about 11:00 on Saturday night.  When officers got there, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers spoke with witnesses who said that a man was on or near the front porch of his home, when he was approached by two black men.  The two subjects attempted to rob the man.  The resident was armed with a handgun and fired several rounds striking one of the subjects several times.

A second man ran away and was last seen running northbound in the neighborhood.  He is described as a black male, in his late teens to early twenties.  He was reportedly wearing a blue hooded jacket, black shorts, black socks and flip-flops.

The resident was also shot in the foot and was treated at a local hospital and is reported to be in good condition.

The subject who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene and a weapon was recovered from the area where his body was found.

An autopsy will be performed by the Allen County Coroner’s Office and the dead man’s name will be released at a later time.
