World War 1 memorial plaque to be added to Memorial Park Sunday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): This Sunday, Veterans Day has some added importance.

That’s because it’s not just the day we honor the men and women who serve and protect our country, but the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which was the end of World War 1.

Rex Smith with our Partners in News at ABC 21 tells WOWO News there will be a special ceremony in Fort Wayne to commemorate it:

“They’re going to re-dedicate Memorial Grove with a new plaque containing the names of all 125 fallen soldiers from Allen County who served in World War 1,” Smith says.

It’s thanks in part due to fundraising efforts from the Warrior Breed Motorcycle Club, who also raised money to replace dead or dying trees within Memorial Grove. The unveiling is set for Sunday at 11am at Memorial Park. The public is invited.
