Worker Reported Badly Hurt at SW Indiana Coal Mine

OAKTOWN, Ind. (AP) _ Authorities say a coal miner was badly injured in an accident at a southwestern Indiana mine.

Oaktown Fire Chief Steve Hobbs tells WTHI-TV the miner was hurt Monday morning when he somehow became trapped beneath underground mining equipment.

Hobbs says other miners freed the man and brought him to the surface at Black Panther Mining in Knox County.

Hobbs says emergency crews treated the man at the scene before he was taken by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital with serious injuries. The miner's name wasn't immediately released.

No other injuries were reported at the mine near Oaktown about 40 miles south of Terre Haute.
