ROCHESTER, Ind. (AP) — A northern Indiana prosecutor is seeking to block the early prison release of a woman convicted in a 2018 crash that killed three siblings who were crossing a rural highway to board a school bus.

Fulton County Prosecutor Mike Marrs filed a motion Thursday seeking to prevent Alyssa Shepherd’s early release. She was sentenced in 2019 to four years in prison after being convicted of three counts of reckless homicide, criminal recklessness and passing a school bus, causing injury.

Marrs said Shepherd has already cut six months off her sentence by successfully completing a faith-based, self-improvement class, and she could get up to 90 additional days off for “Community Involvement.”

“We just don’t feel like it’s justice. It just further erodes the justice system,” Marrs said Thursday during a rally for the crash victims at the Fulton County Courthouse, WSBT-TV reported.

Shepherd was driving her pickup truck when she plowed into the four children on Oct. 30, 2018, as they crossed two-lane State Road 25 in Rochester to board a school bus. The crash killed 6-year-old twin brothers Xzavier and Mason Ingle, and their 9-year-old sister, Alivia Stahl, and seriously injured a fourth child.

Shepherd told authorities she didn’t realize that she was approaching a stopped school bus, despite its activated stop arm and flashing lights.

A judge is expected to rule on Marrs’ motion in the next month to decide if Shepherd will get out of prison by Dec. 20 or if she will not be released until March, WTHR-TV reported.

Brittany Ingle, the mother of the three children killed in the crash, said she hopes the judge prevents more time from being shaved off of Shepherd’s prison time.

“Again, you cannot buy way your way out of hell no matter what good deeds you choose to do for your own selfish reasons,” she said.

She tried to get off the charges from the beginning and is an enormous POS.

Epic Failure of Courts…this woman should have gotten a minimum of 4 years for each child she killed without early release, not 3 years for good behavior after a BIBLE CLASS!!! I’m surprised her hand didn’t burn when she touched it.

Their Mom’s comments above said it all…

I can remember when people were not criminally tried for accidents. Did she mean to harm children? Will keeping her in prison longer bring back the children? This is revenge, and that is all this is for. I think the criminal law system is better served going after people who do something harmful to other people on purpose. As for people who accidentally kill someone else driving due to recklessness or drugs/alcohol. A small misdemeanor sentence will do 1-2 years, but you never drive again. This country is racing to produce felonies because they can have a reduced set of rights. Remember this!

ACCIDENT...Nothing to see here...nevermind the 3 dead kids October 26, 2021 at 3:35 pm

Dave, the stupidity in your comment is enormous. This Country is racing to produce felonies because there is NO ACCOUNTABILITY…no real penalty. Remember This! Democrats prove that over and over again in the Big Cities. So you want someone that runs over 3 kids to have the same Rights as everyone else. DISGUSTING!!

I can remember when people were held responsible for their actions. Passing a Stopped school bus IS a crime, So is killing people with a car. She didn’t HARM children, she KILLED them you moron. Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t MEAN to KILL the children (try and prove that) but her actions and stupidity certainly point to that as a possibility and warrant a stiffer penalty.

It is NOT revenge asking for a greater sentence for someone that does not take driving an automobile seriously enough to not only drive cautiously, but also tries to get out of ALL charges as if she isn’t responsible. You can kill many people with a car if you don’t care, and this Moron proved it. If there were greater sentences for crimes that would RUIN AN ENTIRE FAMILY, more people would take more care into driving.

A greater sentence means a greater ACCOUNTABILITY for your actions, which this Country certainly lacks. And since everything is insured except YOU BEING A LIVING BREWATHING BEING, people like you claim “ACCIDENT” and go on about your life. A greater sentence won’t bring those kids back, but if she went to Prison for 10 years each…many people would think about that before passing another school bus.

ACCIDENT…Nothing to see here…never mind the 3 dead kids. I said nothing to suggest this. Our government is trying to produce felons because felons cannot have fire arms! Its another part of the plan to take this country. Everything is being criminalized. Next time you take your eyes off the road remember what you said here. 4 years of prison being reminded every day that you killed 3 children, because you were reckless will make you think twice, and if she could never again hold a license then the problem cannot happen again. People like me? You do not know me at all if I killed kids with my car I would not be able to live with myself, and would be dead shortly after. I am willing to bet this young lady punishes herself more then you could possibly know.
