JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP): A southern Indiana prosecutor says a woman found dead and mutilated in her home last week had posted bond in July for the man now accused in her gruesome killing.
Clark County prosecutor Steve Stewart said Tuesday that 46-year-old Tammy Jo Blanton posted the $500 bond on July 31 for her then-boyfriend, 33-year-old Joseph Oberhansley of Jeffersonville.
The Courier-Journal reports Oberhansley was then released from jail on charges of criminal recklessness and resisting arrest stemming from a police chase.
Oberhansley was charged Monday with murder and abuse of a corpse as authorities say he killed Blanton, then mutilated her and ate parts of her body.
A deputy prosecutor who agreed to the reduced bond for Oberhansley that Blanton paid has resigned.
