Woman Who Ran Over Husband’s Girlfriend Sentenced

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A Lafayette woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for running over her estranged husband's girlfriend and smashing into an apartment building.

A judge ordered the sentence Wednesday for 31-year-old Erin Fikes. The Journal & Courier reports she pleaded guilty to battery with a deadly weapon, drunken driving and other charges.

Fikes was arrested after the crash about 4:45 a.m. on April 15, which police say happened with her 5- and 13-year-old children in the car.

Court documents say Fikes, her estranged husband and his girlfriend were drinking together when an argument started. Fikes was leaving when she sped toward the other two, with the woman hitting the car's hood and windshield before being pinned underneath it. She was treated at a hospital for cuts and bruises.
