Woman Killed in Lake Shafer Boat Accident

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): On Saturday, Indiana Conservation Officers investigated a boat accident on Lake Shafer involving a personal watercraft. 43-year-old Anne L. Wittstock of Illinois was operating the boat with a male passenger on the back. For an unknown reason, she drove into the NIPSCO security cables that are stretched across the lake to keep boaters away from the Norway Dam. Nearby boaters were able to recover Wittstock from the water and begin CPR. The Monticello Fire Department transported Wittstock to the IU White Memorial Hospital where she was flown to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Wittstock was pronounced dead at Methodist. The male passenger, Joseph Allen, also of Illinois, was uninjured. Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factor in this crash, which is still under investigation.
