HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) _ A northwestern Indiana woman has admitted embezzling more than $650,000 from a title company that employed her.
The Post-Tribune reports Laurie Brezinski of Schererville faces up to 10 years in prison when she’s sentenced on one count each of embezzlement and filing a false income tax return.
Under a plea agreement filed Thursday in federal court in Hammond, the former Ticor Title Insurance employee also agreed to pay more than $840,000 in restitution and prosecution costs. Prosecutors have agreed to drop nine other embezzling and false income tax return counts she’d faced.
Brezinski was charged in April with writing herself seven checks from Ticor’s accounts between August 2003 and October 2008. The company says she had access to money in trust and escrow accounts in its Crown Point office.
