ROCHESTER, Ind. (WOWO): The driver in a school bus stop crash near Rochester that killed three children and injured a fourth will be in court tomorrow.

24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd faces three felony counts of reckless homicides and a misdemeanor count of passing a school bus with its safety arm extended. Her pre-trial conference will take place shortly after 1 p.m., to determine if the case will go to trial or if a plea deal will be presented by prosecutors.

Shepherd claims she did not recognize the school bus as she approached it on October 30th. The four children that were hit were crossing the street to board the bus.

I guess noticing the blinking red lights on the front of the bus, the blinking lights on the extended arm, and the bright alternating blinking headlamps all going off at the same time (when it sun isn’t out) would be difficult to see. Makes you wonder if her attention was actually directed elsewhere.
