Witness Foils Attempted Abduction in Marion

Police say a Marion man attempted to kidnap at 10-year-old girl.  According to our news partners at INC, the attempted abduction occurred in the area of 1st Street and Baldwin close to 4:10 p.m. Saturday. Police say a driver in the area watched as Gary Wilder, 51, of Marion, attempted to put the 10-year-old girl in his vehicle. An 11-year-old child was also seen walking with the 10-year-old girl at the time of the near kidnapping. Police believe Wilder saw the driver observing the attempted abduction, released the girl and fled west on 1st Street. The driver who observed the incident, according to police, chased Wilder until the chase ended at 4th Street and Butler. There, Wilder ran a stop sign and was hit by a car eastbound on 4th Street.  Wilder was arrested and charged with one count of criminal confinement.
