Wintry blast brings crashes, outages

(Darrin Wright/WOWO News)

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): It’s been a hectic morning in northeast Indiana.

A winter storm that blew through early this morning dropped freezing rain, sleet, and a little snow across northeast Indiana, forcing many schools to either delay classes or close outright.

Dozens of crashes were reported to the WOWO Newsroom, including one involving two semis on US 30 eastbound in Columbia City that blocked a lane of traffic for more than an hour.

As many as 1,100 Power outages were also reported around Taylor University and Upland, due to frozen precipitation bringing down power lines.

An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect for most of northeast Indiana until noon.
