Wind Chills Reaching 30 Below Zero in Indiana; Snow Totals Reach 16 Inches in Areas

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP): Temperatures have reached more than 10 below zero in parts of Indiana and the National Weather Service has the entire state under a wind chill warning.

The weather service has reported air temperatures Monday of 11 below zero in Indianapolis, along with minus-7 in Fort Wayne and minus-1 in Evansville. Winds gusting to around 35 mph have led to wind chills of more than 30 below zero in many places.

An earlier blizzard warning for northern Indiana has been allowed to expire, but the wind chill warning is set to last until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Officials say frost bite can occur within minutes with such cold.

Some of the biggest snowfalls from Sunday were 16 inches near LaPorte, North Webster and Columbia City and 15 inches at Tipton.
