Winchester Man Gets 120 Years for Killing Parents

WINCHESTER, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has sentenced an eastern Indiana man to 120 years in prison for the murders of his parents.

Randolph Circuit Judge Jay Toney, in sentencing defendant Brian Scott Hartman on Thursday, told the defendant he was “the definition of a cold-blooded killer.''

The Star Press reports Hartman didn't speak at the hearing.

A jury deliberated only an hour Oct. 10 before convicting the 37-year-old Hartman in the fatal February 2010 shooting of his 53-year-old father, also named Brian Hartman, and the fatal overdose of his mother, 52-year-old Cheri Hartman. The deaths occurred at the victims' southwestern Randolph County home, about 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis.

Cheri Hartman suffered from cancer and emphysema. Her remains were cremated at her son's direction, before authorities realized her husband had been slain.
