INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Law enforcement in Indiana is on alert after a fight between motorcycle clubs killed 9 people and lead to 170 arrests in Texas.
Brad Blackington is with the U-S Attorney‘s Office in Indiana, and he was the lead prosecutor behind the huge Outlaws bust in 2012. Blackington says the ripples of organized crime activity can often be seen far away from the original crime.
Blackington says clubs with a history of violence in Indiana, like the Outlaws, Diablos, and Sons of Silence create a pretty volatile atmosphere because you never know when the violence will extend beyond the clubs, and spill into the streets.
Beyond their boundaries, clubs can extend their influence, even if they don‘t have specifically chartered chapters in some areas, they can charter support clubs. For example, the Outlaws had a support club called the Black Pistons, that, according to Blackington, was used to do much of the clubs dirtier and more illicit work.
Clubs can also form alliances with other, larger clubs to expand influence.
