Waynedale Trails to Soon Connect to Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Waynedale residents will soon be connected to the Fort Wayne trail system.

According to the Journal Gazette, the Board of Public Works approved spending over $20,00 for a topographic survey that helps plan out the 1.5 mile trail and sidewalk project along Bluffton Road.

A group of Waynedale residents known as the “Waynedale Trails and Sidewalks Initiative” has been raising money since 2012 to connect the trails. The group collected money through volunteer donations and provided the check to Public Works to invest in the topographic survey.

Bluffton Road is one of the highest-traffic roads in the area, according to the group. The new trails will run along Bluffton from Lower Huntington Road to Winchester Road, and tie into the Rivergreenway at Foster Park West.

The new project is a priority in the Walk Fort Wayne Plan and will be completed in two phases. The first will be completed by 2016 and the second phase will be done by 2017.
