Washington Elementary Honored as Title I Distinguished School

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Washington Elementary was honored Monday afternoon, as a Title I Distinguished School, one of just two in the state to receive the award from the National Title I Association and Indiana Department of Education.

Washington was recognized for closing the gap between majority and minority students. The news release from the Indiana Department of Education announcing the award stated, “Washington’s success is attributed to teacher collaborations including analysis of student work and information from assessment data synthesized to drive common weekly instruction and future skill assessment; weekly building and classroom goals related to the School Improvement Plan; community partnerships; and high expectations of teachers, staff and students.”

With the designation comes a $25,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Education, and staff will be invited to present at the next Indiana Title I Conference as well as attend the National Title I Conference in San Diego in 2014.
