Warsaw Man Dies After January Incident

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind (WOWO): 21-year-old Jerry Belcher, of Warsaw, died yesterday, March 25th at a local hospital, as related to an incident back in January.

On January 18th, 2013, Belcher was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition after jumping form a moving vehicle, south of Nappanee.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, officers got a call that morning about a man jumping from a moving vehicle on County Road 800 West just south of County Road 850 North.

Once officers arrived they found Belcher, who was unconscious and suffering from extensive head injuries.  He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Sheriff’s deputies were later told that Belcher had been a passenger in a pickup truck driven by his father, Johnny Belcher.  As they were traveling to work, they got into a verbal fight that became intense.

While traveling on County Road 800 West, Jerry Belcher suddenly opened the front passenger side door of the pickup truck and jumped.

His father immediately stopped and went back to find his son. He was in the ditch-line area.

A third person in the backseat of the pickup truck confirmed the same scenario of events.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office stated that Belcher died as a result of complications of traumatic brain injury due to blunt force trauma from jumping out of the vehicle.
