Walmart employee killed on the job identified as 79-year-old man

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Walmart employee who was killed when he was ran over by a semi Monday morning was a 79-year-old Fort Wayne man.

Kenneth Steele died from blunt force trauma due to the crash, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office. The coroner also said the death was an accident.

Steele was unloading a semi at about 8 a.m. Monday in the 10420 Masyville Road Walmart parking lot. While unloading the semi, he fell and the semi ran over him.

Steele was unresponsive when police got to parking lot. He died at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation. This is the 10th traffic death in Allen County in 2016.

“This is a very tragic situation and we are deeply saddened this morning by the loss of our friend and colleague,” Walmart said in a statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time. We are still learning all of the details and working with law enforcement to help provide any additional information.”
