Wabash wins $500,000 to vamp up local businesses in Small Business Revolution competition

WABASH, Ind. (WOWO):Small businesses in Wabash will get a makeover after the city beat out thousands of small communities in a national competition and won $500,000.

Wabash won the Deluxe Corporation’s Small Business Revolution on Main Street project, which was created to help small business owners, according to its website.

“Small business owners are the backbone of Main Streets across the United States, and this year, the Small Business Revolution is celebrating their contributions by bringing a big makeover to one small town,” Small Business Revolution said on its website.

Deluxe Corporation, a small business marketing company, and Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec narrowed down the playing field from nearly 10,000 small towns to just two — Wabash and Silverton, Oregon.

From there, the public chose the winner by voting online.

Local Wabash businesses will receive $250,000 in marketing services from Deluxe Corp. and another $250,000 will be used for physical improvement to businesses and downtown Wabash, according to the Journal Gazette.

The transformation, which will probably take most of the summer, will be followed by Deluxe Corp. in an online video series.

The nomination process started in January.
