FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Voters in northeastern Indiana's Allen County will be deciding this fall whether to replace the traditional three-member board of county commissioners with a single county executive.
The county Election Board on Monday certified wording for the question that will be placed on the November ballot. State legislators this year approved a bill allowing the consolidation in Indiana's third most-populous county that includes the city of Fort Wayne.
If a majority of voters favor the referendum, Allen County would be the first Indiana county to move to a single county executive with completely separate city governments. The current three county commissioners would remain in office until after the new single executive was elected in 2018.
