Volunteers to pack meals for the hungry at Memorial Coliseum

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Verbatim/WOWO): Volunteers from age 4 to 104 will gather at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum later this month to pack 100,000 meals for children suffering from hunger and malnutrition in the Philippines.

The local Kids Against Hunger satellite will host the event on Saturday, September 17th from 9am to 11am. The Kids Against Hunger satellite is currently seeking volunteers to help pack these meals.

Volunteers for Kids Against Hunger – Fort Wayne will hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children. The food packets are distributed through partners running orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs around the world.  The food packed on September 17th will be shipped to the Philippines.

The event is a family-friendly event. Donations to cover the cost of the food are appreciated, but not required to come help. You can register for the event at www.kah-fortwayne.org.

Preregistration is required. The deadline to do so is September 5th.

“There are few opportunities like this to make a significant difference in the world,” says Jana Thompson, Executive Director. “The two hours you spend packing can literally be the difference between life and death for the starving and malnourished children in our world.”
