Fort Wayne, Ind.  (WOWO): Winter weather with its strong winds has left unsightly trash and debris on the side of the road, in ditches, in vacant lots and along our riverbanks.  It’s time to clean-up and the City of Fort Wayne needs your help.

Volunteers of all ages are asked to show their community pride and join in the annual Great American Cleanup™ on Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Residents, families, churches, youth organizations or schools can register at www.cityoffortwayne.org/greatamericancleanup or by calling (260) 427-1345, no later than Friday, March 30. Registration allows the City to provide volunteers with event T-shirts, gloves, and trash bags. Groups can select the area they wish to clean-up or the City staff can assign them an area. Last year, volunteers collected more than 187,000 pounds of litter and debris during this one-day effort.

The Great American Cleanup™ is the country’s largest beautification and community improvement effort. Nationwide, there were more than four million volunteers last year.   Fort Wayne’s clean-up efforts focus on neighborhoods, vacant lots, trails and greenways, graffiti removal, streets and roads, and our rivers.

The event provides a great opportunity for neighborhood associations, church groups, service organizations, youth groups, schools, and all residents to make a difference in their community.
