Victim of Fatal Car Crash Early Saturday Morning Identified

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): We now know the identity of the victim of a fatal crash early Saturday morning. 17-year-old Haley Nellum, of Fort Wayne, died of blunt force trauma. Nellum was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Stellhorn and Hobson Roads. According to the Allen County Coroner, her manner of death was an accident. Police are still investigating the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Police got a call just after midnight on Saturday that shots were fired outside of Corner Pocket Pub at 3215 St. Joe Center Road.  Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and saw two vehicles exiting the parking lot very quickly.  Witnesses reported the vehicle that fired the shots ignored a red stoplight at the intersection of Stellhorn and Hobson and struck the vehicle traveling eastbound Stellhorn Road.

It was just minutes later at 12:04 a.m. when police got the call of the crash at the intersection of Stellhorn and Hobson.  The driver of the southbound Hobson vehicle was able to exit his car, but his passenger was pinned inside.  The Fort Wayne Fire Department arrived to try to get the person out.  Meanwhile, the driver traveling eastbound on Stellhorn was unconscious and unresponsive, and later pronounced dead at the scene.

At around 12:19 a.m. a shooting victim arrived at Parkview Hospital on Randallia Drive.  Police later found bullet holes in the exterior of the victims car.  The shooting victim says he was in the parking lot of the Corner Pocket Pub when he was shot.  He was later transported to another hospital in serous condition.

Police say all the events are related, and appears the driver and passenger of the vehicle that caused the crash were involved in an altercation inside the bar.  When they were outside, one of the occupants in the suspect vehicle fired shots that struck the victim.

Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses and have the suspect, 35 year old Jeremy D. Washington, in custody.  Alcohol was a factor in this fatal vehicle crash.  He is charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Recklessness Causing Serious Bodily Injury.  This incident remains under investigation.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has not released the victim’s identity.
