Van Wert County Boy Rescued from Hotel Pool

MITCHELL, Ind. (AP): The quick action of bystanders is being credited with saving the life of a northwest Ohio teenager pulled over the weekend from the hotel pool at a southern Indiana state park.

Indiana Conservation Officers said a relative spotted 13-year-old Riley Saylor of Ohio City, Ohio, at the bottom of the pool at Spring Mill State Park Inn.

Officers said Sarah Rumschlag of Decatur jumped in and brought Riley to the surface, where nurse Shelly Miller of Roanoke and another park visitor, Amy Crouch of Fort Wayne, gave him CPR until medics arrived at the hotel near Mitchell.

Officers said Riley has made a full recovery after being taken to a Bloomington hospital.

Officer Chad Mills said the actions by the rescuers no doubt saved Riley’s life.
